Hi! I’m Praise, and I believe children can help make a big difference through small everyday actions.

Have you ever taken more food than you could finish, forgotten fruit in the fridge or thrown away leftovers that could have become another meal? It happens in many homes, including mine. That is why I am starting the No Food to Waste Challenge.

Food is precious. Farmers grow it, people transport it, families buy it and someone takes time to prepare it. When we waste less food, we respect all that work and help protect the land, water and energy used to produce it.

Here is my seven-day challenge:

Day 1 — Notice. Look at what your family usually throws away. Ask an adult to help you write it down.

Day 2 — Choose a sensible portion. Take only what you think you can finish. You can always ask for a little more.

Day 3 — Save it safely. With an adult’s help, put suitable leftovers in a clean container and store them properly.

Day 4 — Give leftovers a second life. Turn extra rice, vegetables or fruit into a new meal or snack with an adult.

Day 5 — Check before shopping. Look in the fridge and cupboards so your family does not buy food it already has.

Day 6 — Share safely. If your family has unopened food it will not use, ask an adult whether it can be donated or shared.

Day 7 — Celebrate your progress. Count how many food-saving actions your family completed. Every action earns a star!

Please complete the challenge with a parent or trusted adult. Adults should make decisions about food safety, storage, cooking and sharing.

At the end of the week, talk about what worked well and choose one habit your family wants to continue. You do not need to be perfect. The goal is to notice, learn and improve together.

Waste less. Share what you can. Value every meal. Let’s show that a little voice can make a big change!
